The interior of my straw house has inspired me to learn skills I had not explored previously. Adding to my expertise as a cabinetmaker, I’ve been able to create interesting details with other media. The stone work around the woodstove and main bathroom sink areas are a stone veneer, while the stone mixed with tile on the shower wall were done with handpicking actual stones from my property as well as stream beds of places I visited. I made the kitchen concrete countertops using the Buddy Rhodes method and his concrete mix products. Instead of pouring the mix into the forms, the process involves working the concrete into the form as if using clay. My floor joists between the two floors are whole hemlock trees taken from my land.
